Monadnock at Home (MaH) is a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire serving communities east of Mount Monadnock. Our mission is to provide older adults in the Monadnock Region with the support, connections, and practical resources they need to live safely, independently, and actively in their homes and communities.
Monadnock at Home launched in September 2010 to help seniors address the challenges of maintaining independence at home. Since then, more than 300 individuals in 11 surrounding towns have benefited from the program. We currently serve residents of Dublin, Fitzwilliam, Greenfield, Hancock, Harrisville, Jaffrey, New Ipswich, Peterborough, Rindge, Sharon, and Temple.
Monadnock at Home operates as a membership program that connects older adults with volunteers, trusted service providers, and community resources. When members contact us with a need, our staff work directly with them to understand the request and coordinate the appropriate support.
Approximately 80% of the requests we receive are fulfilled by volunteers. Volunteers may assist with errands such as pharmacy pickups or grocery shopping, basic handyman tasks, friendly visits, check-in calls, computer assistance, and other practical help that allows members to remain comfortable and independent at home.
Just as important as practical help is the sense of connection that comes with being part of Monadnock at Home. Many older adults experience social isolation, especially when living alone or when mobility becomes limited. Monadnock at Home creates opportunities for members to stay engaged with their neighbors and community through coffee groups, educational programs, volunteer opportunities, social gatherings, and group outings. These activities help foster friendships, shared learning, and the sense of belonging that is essential to healthy aging.
When members need transportation, Monadnock at Home staff helps coordinate and manage the ride request from intake through confirmation and communication with the member. Many medical and essential rides go through our partnership with Community Volunteer Transportation Company (CVTC), a nonprofit that provides volunteer driver transportation services in the region. CVTC provides the transportation itself independently and at no charge to riders.
Monadnock at Home volunteers also assist members with certain rides and errands not typically covered by CVTC, such as grocery trips that include shopping assistance, short-notice transportation, rides to personal appointments, and transportation to Monadnock at Home social outings.
We also connect members with a trusted network of more than 100 vetted service providers across over 40 categories, helping them find reliable assistance for home maintenance, personal care, and other household needs.
We work with many community partners, including Monadnock Community Hospital, Community Volunteer Transportation Company, Home Healthcare Hospice & Community Services, and local independent and assisted living communities as needs arise.
